Stop bombing oil facilities, Delta govt urges youths

By Akpokona Omafuaire

KOKODIAGBENE—DELTA State Government has appealed to youths in the state to stop bombing oil facilities and embrace peace in the interest of the nation.

Speaking through the state Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro, at Kokodiagbene community of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area,  during the launch of the Coastal Mega-Market built by the community, the government said peace remained the only way development could come  to the people.

Represented by Chief Favour Izuokomor, DESOPADEC Commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality, Otuaro noted that the bombing of pipelines had led to severe economic hardship and slow development.

According to him, the state government was willing to meet the development yearnings of the people but there was no finance at the moment.

Earlier, Sheriff Mulade, Community Chairman, lamented that there was no government presence in Kokodiagbene despite its huge oil production and called on oil companies and government to take deliberate steps  to develop  the community.

He called on Chevron, NPDC/NECONDE and Delta State Government to expand the market for optimum commercial activities.

In his lecture, guest speaker, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, Dean of Social Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka, called for deliberate economic empowerment of communities.

Okaba insisted that with participatory collaboration, empowerment of communities would be fast tracked and praised Mulade for being a community leader who always craves the best for his people.
