By Emem Idio

YENAGOA—TROOPS of Sector 4 of Operation Delta Safe, ODS, has uncovered and destroyed four militants’ shrines with 23 suspected human skulls, in Ikot Ene Edem, Abakpa and Ikot Inam in Bakassi and Akpabuyo Local Government Areas of Cross River State.

This came as ODS arrested 44 alleged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, during the alleged attempts to establish a chapter of the group in Bayelsa State.

Coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Centre of ODS, Lt Col. Olaolu Daudu, who disclosed this yesterday in a statement in Yenagoa, said the raid at the shrines took place on Wednesday, while the alleged IPOB members were apprehended last Saturday at a night club in Yenagoa.

According to Lt Col Daudu, “the troops acting on a tip-off carried out a cordoned and search operations, where they discovered four militants’ shrines and 23 human skulls in various stages of decomposition, a complete human skeleton and several other human parts.”

He said the shrines were destroyed as troops continue the search for the perpetrators of the crimes, stating that “with the clearance of these shrines, the Bakassi Strike Force have been effectively smoked out from the areas they used to hold sway,” adding that two suspected spies to the Bakassi Strike Force militants group were later arrested at Idebe Ifak, Okon Edem and Abakpa in Bakassi Local Government Area.

Lt Col Daudu said: “Troops of  Sector 2, of ODS, acting on intelli-gence report, trailed a group of people which led to the arrests of forty-four members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, members at Lakeview Club along Mbabinton Road, Okaka, Yenagoa.”
