CLO, others back call to summon IGP over alleged killings by police in Bayelsa, Rivers

By Samuel Oyadongha

YENAGOA—THE leadership of Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, Bayelsa State chapter and other stakeholders, yesterday threw their weight behind Hon Douye Diri, representing Kolokuma/Opokuma federal constituency over a motion to summon the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over alleged killings of innocent persons in Bayelsa and Rivers States by the police.

Diri had, on Tuesday, during plenary moved a motion with a resolution calling on the House to commiserate with the families of the victims whose lives were brutally cut short by the Police/JTF and also observe a minute silence in their honour and to investigate the circumstances of the killings.

The House also resolved to invite the Inspector General of Police and any other culpable agency to appear before the House Committees on Police Affairs and Human Rights to give insight into the extra- judicial killings and the steps taken to prevent such reckless and avoidable killings in future.
